Important Practice Update

Important Practice Update

Dear Patients,

We hope this update finds you well. Over these strange months there has been many changes for all of us and we have entered into what feels like ‘the new normal’. However evidence suggests that cases of COVID 19 are rising again and is a significant reminder that we must all continue to follow National guidance at this time.

At the practice we are continuing a total triage system, meaning that accessing our service either by telephone or online remains in place and a clinician will assess your immediate needs, we are finding that the majority of issues can be dealt with over the telephone or video consultation quickly and safely, those patients that do require further examination are invited to an appointment by the Clinician usually on the same day.

Routine nurse appointments remain limited but are continuing currently, it is important that patients with long term medical conditions continue with their care management alongside patients who are due their cervical screening. We can assure all our patients that your safety is paramount and are infection control procedures are carried out routinely within the practice.

Whilst we continue to follow National guidelines we assure you all our team are in practice and working hard. Whilst some changes have been made in light of the pandemic our service access remains unchanged and our capacity for appointments has not been reduced. If we encounter any capacity issues or staff shortages during the next few weeks / months we will aim to notify our patients via social media and our website as done previously.

Our flu clinics are scheduled to go ahead at this time and we still have appointments available for flu eligible patients under 65, you can book these online or by calling the surgery. If you are attending our flu clinics please ensure you wear a face mask, attend at the correct time and ensure you are wearing suitable clothing that allows access to the injection site. By following these measures we will aim to get you in and out of the surgery quickly and as safely as possible. We have still not been advised when we are able to invite over 50’s patients for their flu jab as per the new government directive, we were told previously that these could be expected in November, however to date no new information has been provided to us.

During this time, may we ask that patient make note of the following:

  • Currently we are not booking any GP / clinical bookings in advance of more than 3 days (exception of nurse clinics). If you are unwell or require a routine appointment we ask that you book online or telephone the surgery close to the date or on the day you know you are able to speak to us for a consultation. (ACP appointments are available online most days, ACP’s can examine, assess and prescribe)
  • If you have a face to face appointment at the practice, please do not attend with family members or friends. 1 person to 1 appointment unless you are attending with a child or are a registered carer.
  • Patients requesting fit notes, these are no longer GP appointments, we ask you to call the surgery in the morning and our reception team will add your request to the duty Dr’s morning lists, (please refrain from booking online clinical appointments to request these)
  • Minor surgeries, ear syringing,  HGV medicals, Spirometry and Travel clinics remain suspended as per National Guidance.
  • Please ensure if you are attending the surgery for an appointment you wear a face mask, our reception team continue screening at the doors and routinely provide a temperature check before being permitted into the surgery.

Whilst we would not prevent patients from accessing our services, we would once again please ask that our services are used appropriately. Many minor conditions can be treated by self-care and over the counter medication. We please ask that you consult with your pharmacy first or access advice from NHS.UK for minor conditions before contacting the practice. We will not routinely book appointments for cold sores, diarrhoea, sore throats, itchy rashes as a result of allergic reaction, colds, fungal nail infections etc..

We sincerely hope pandemic levels remain managable over the forth coming weeks / months. In light of any government announcments or further lock down measures we will update you as soon as possible about our services.

Take care and stay safe
